TMDL Cost Share Program

Summary of TMDL Accomplishments—-FY 2006 through FY 2015

Funding for the Falling River/Cub Creek/Turnip Creek TMDL began in 2006 with the first TMDL funded BMP project being completed in May of 2007. Since then, a total of 74 projects have been installed in this watershed most of which are the stream exclusion/alternate watering system practices (SL-6T or LE-1T). A few have been combined with CREP or EQIP funding through FSA or NRCS. These practices require fences to be placed a minimum of 35 ft. from the creek bank along creeks and ponds and these buffer areas act as filters to prevent sediment and nutrient runoff from reaching the water. Over 56 miles of stream bank in these watersheds have been protected since 2006 utilizing approximately $1,900,000.00 in TMDL cost share funds.

Success Story! A section of  the Cub Creek Watershed has been de-listed from the EPA’s impaired waterways list. Cub Creek was 1 of the 3 impaired waterways included in the Falling River TMDL.
